City News

City of Parkland Electronic Newsletter Is A Success
The City of Parkland is pleased to announce that its electronic newsletter is a success. The City created a newsletter dedicated to informing its residents about the happenings and events occurring within the City. The newsletter is a way for the City’s residents to keep up to speed with what the City is doing and for the City to express what it is excited about and what the City is looking forward to. Residents can sign up for this service by visiting the City’s web site at www.cityofparkland.org. Once registered, the City will send an e-mail notice to your computer every two months with the newsletter link. For further information, please feel free to contact Jan Johnson at 954 757-4200 or jjohnson@cityofparkland.org.

Channel 78 Home to Parkland TV
The City of Parkland has a Government Access Channel, which can be found on Channel 78 on Comcast Cable. The purpose of the channel is to provide the residents of the Parkland with current and on-time information relative to City functions. Everything from City meetings, to job opportunities, events and special information will be aired. Currently, the channel has pertinent looping information. In the near future, the City plans to begin airing produced programming including short informative pieces that will focus on everything from hurricane preparedness to water conservation.

Channel 78 will also serve as valuable tool during emergency or disaster situations, such as hurricanes. The City will be able to provide its residents with real-time information from its Emergency Operation Center.

City officials are excited about the potential and expect to utilize Channel 78 to its fullest to provide City residents with an invaluable service. All Parkland residents who have Comcast Cable should be able to tune into Channel 78. Unfortunately, this service is not available for residents with satellite television or those residents who do not receive Comcast Cable. For more information, please contact the City at 954-753-5040.

Recycling Awareness Month in Parkland
January is Parkland’s Recycling Awareness Month. Let’s start 2013 off the right way and remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and make environmentally conscious decisions. An observable display of our throwaway society is the use of plastic bags which are linked to a range of environmental impacts. The life of a plastic bag at times can be minutes; from store to car and from car to home.

In an effort to increase awareness, on January 19th between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM the City will have a table set up near Publix at the Parkland Commons shopping plaza and will be collecting brown plastic bags and handing out information on Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.

We are asking residents to participate in this event by bringing their brown plastic bags to be recycled. The first 20 residents to attend will receive a free reusable shopping bag.

Remember to recycle whenever possible and do your part in keeping Parkland green.
