Parkland Library Events

Just learning to use a computer?
If you are just learning or need to brush up on the basics, the Parkland Library has a series of classes that are just for you. Meeting at 10:30 AM over two weeks, the course covers everything a beginner needs to know, including the internet and email. Call (954) 757-4200 or come by the Library to register for one class or all four.

Jurassic Parts: Ice Age Rampage (age 7 and up)
Wednesday, June 19th 3:30 pm
Jurassic Parts will teach children about the animals that roamed Florida long ago and why these animals are no longer found. Children will be able to see and touch a wide selection of genuine and replica fossils of animals such as Saber Cats, Mastodons and Mammoths and other animals. Summer Storytime Registration
June 19th – June 23rd
Online registration will enable you to register your child for storytime on a first come, first serve basis through our website. The website is www.cityofparkland.org/library. Your Parkland Library card is required in order to register. Registration is limited to one class per child. Registration will begin on June 19th at 8:30am. You will receive an email informing you that your child is in the class or on a wait list by June 28. For further assistance, call (954)-757-4207.

Tales to Tails

Come to the Parkland Library and read to Daisy, a therapy dog. This program is developed to encourage independent reading and increase reading fluency. Each child can read for about 5 minutes. This program is for children 5 to12 years old. Register here or call (954)757-4207.

Senior Program: Geocaching

Parkland residents 62 and older are welcome to participate in a Geocaching Class. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. 4th of July Bike Parade

The City of Parkland is on a roll as it celebrates the 4th of July with our annual Bike Parade! Be sure to decorate yourselves, your bikes, scooters and strollers in a nice patriotic red, white and blue theme. Prizes will be given to those best decorated in different age categories. Cookies and juice will be served free of charge. This event is open to all ages and registration is required on the day of the event. Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration

Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5-11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland is currently accepting walk-in summer recreation applications. All sessions of camp are located at Heron Heights Elementary School and the hours of operation are 8:30AM-4:00PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30AM and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30PM. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities and field trips. Field trips are taken aboard air-conditioned motor coach buses two to three days per week to facilities located in the tri-county area such as movies, bowling, water parks, arcades, skating, museums, etc. For further information, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at gdougherty@cityofparkland.org or go to the City website at www.cityofparkland.org.

Don’t get left out of the fun with your friends this summer! The City of Parkland is currently accepting walk-in registration for Parkland Teen Camp, a summer recreation program for children ages 12-14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. All sessions of teen camp will take place at Westglades Middle School and the hours of operation are 9:00AM-3:30PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00AM and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00PM. Teen Camp is a travel program. Parkland Summer Camp Individual Week Registration

The City of Parkland is now accepting registrations for individual weeks for both the Parkland Teen Camp and Parkland Kids Camp. Registration can be done at the Parkland Amphitheater from 8:00AM-5:00PM. Spaces are limited in both camp programs. Individual weeks for residents are $175 and for non-residents, $200.
