Parkland Budget Workshop and Public Hearings

Any and all residents who are interested in the City's budget proposal are invited to attend one of the many workshops and public hearings on the City's Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Proposed Budget. A preliminary review of the budget with the City Commission will take place at the Commission Workshop on August 14th at 6:00pm. A second Commission Budget Workshop has been scheduled for September 12th, if necessary. The public hearings on the budget are scheduled for September 12th at 6:00pm and September 18th at 7:00pm in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall. In addition, the City of Parkland is now taking resident suggestions for the upcoming 2013-2014 Annual Budget via the City’s website. Residents can visit www.cityofparkland.org and click the Budget Comments link in the left menu bar to be redirected to the appropriate page. Residents will be able to enter a detailed description of their suggestion. The Proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Budget is located under the Finance Department in the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Information section for your review.


City of Parkland Building Department Now Accepts Credit Cards

In an effort to provide the highest level of service, the City of Parkland’s Building Department now accepts most major credit cards. You can now utilize your Visa and MasterCard to pay for permits, contractor registrations and more. This will allow for ease of use for anyone conducting business with the Building Department. Parkland Lecture on Invasive Exotic Plant Awareness

The City of Parkland is pleased to announce a lecture to promote invasive exotic plant awareness in the community. This lecture will be held on August 16th, 2013 from 3:30 – 4:30 PM at the City of Parkland Library, 6620 North University Drive, Parkland, FL 33067. This lecture will introduce current data on the detrimental effects invasive exotic plants have on the environment, the types of invasive exotic plants affecting the community, and alternative plant choices available for resident use. Come join us to learn more about the effects of invasive exotic plants and what you can do to halt the introduction of these plants into our natural plant communities. Coast Guard Boating Safety Course

A concise 1-day course taught by the US Coast Guard, you will learn all about the Federal regulations in the State of Florida, seamanship, how a boat operates and how to handle one, how to load a boat so it balances properly, navigating in rough seas, proper docking and much more. Cost is $36 with multi-family member discounts available. All materials are included and participants will receive a certification card upon completion. AARP Driver Safety Program

The AARP Driver Safety Course is a 6-hour refresher course that has helped millions of drivers sharpen their defensive driving skills. Participants of the course are generally 50 and older, but anyone is permitted to register for the course. All participants will receive a certificate and those 55 and older may submit the certificate to their insurance company to receive discount benefits. (Discount percentage varies by insurance company). The cost to attend the class is $12.00 for members and $14.00 for non-members. Checks are written out to AARP. Advance Registration is required. Join us as we watch the Miami Dolphins play the San Diego Chargers! Kickoff is at 1PM, but we will have a super fun time tail-gating before the game. Betsy G. Carlen from Kawa Orthodontics will teach children the importance oral hygiene and nutrition. She will emphasize the importance of taking care of your teeth and gums. She will also discuss nutrition and “detergent” foods that help clean teeth when you can’t brush. Each child who participates will receive a goody bag filled with surprises. Go “Beneath the Surface” one last time and create a Pegasus using scratch art. Art teacher, Barbara Freiberg, will teach students how to sketch the Pegasus and then draw it onto special scratch art paper. Turn in your completed reading log (6 books total) by August 14th and you will be entered in a drawing to win a grand prize.
