City Lowers Millage Rate and Adopts 2013-2014 Budget

On September 18, 2013 the Parkland City Commission adopted the City's budget for fiscal year 2013-2014 with a reduction of the millage rate from 3.9999 to a new millage rate of 3.990. According to Mayor Michael Udine, "We were able to reduce the millage rate without a loss of level of service to the residents, in fact we were even able to increase services in some City departments by operating in an efficient manner." In addition, Parkland did not raise the Fire Assessment Fee. The Budget authorizes the funding for all City activities and programs and provides funds for services that the residents of Parkland depend on, such as police, fire protection, youth programs and activities, street maintnenance, and the day-to-day operation of the City.


Registration Is Now Open For the 2013 Parkland Dash 5K,10K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
The City of Parkland will be holding the 2013 Parkland Dash 5K, 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Presented by Northwest Medical Center to benefit Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society on October 20, 2013 at 7:00am. The race will take place at Pine Trails Park located at 10555 Trails End Parkland, Florida. To register please visit www.cityofparkland.org and click on the race registration link. Pre-Registration must be completed by October 17th or race day registration will be available beginning at 6:00AM. Advance Packet Pickup is strongly recommended and can be completed at Sports Authority located at 9188 Wiles Road, Coral Springs, FL on Saturday, October 19th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Participants can choose either a certified 5K course, 10K course or a 1 mile fun run/walk. 5K and 10K participants will be scored and timed by Accuchip who will be providing disposable tags for all participants. The one mile fun run/walk will be timed and can be enjoyed by individuals or families. Strollers are welcome for all courses. T-shirts will be provided for the first 400 pre-registered participants and food will be available following the race. Awards will be given for overall winners, masters and individual age groups. Healthy Lifestyles is a series of classes held quarterly on the first Wednesday of the month from 1:00-2:00pm in the activity room at Parkland City Hall. These classes are for adults 18 years of age and older and educate the audience and promote healthy living from a holistic approach. This quarter’s class, sponsored by Northwest Medical Center , features Cardiologist Dr. Craig Hostig and HCA East Florida Division Care Assure Program Director Barb Dale. Their topic is "Love Your Heart Better” and they will speak about learning how to be a step ahead of heart disease by practicing proactive heart care. The City of Parkland wants to give back to those in need during this holiday season. We will donate all food collected to Feeding South Florida. For the 6th consecutive year, Parkland staff will be collecting food from October 7, 2013 until November 15, 2013. The holidays are just around the corner and for Parkland City employees that means the start of helping those less fortunate during this holiday season.
