Parkland Receives Acknowledgement from State regarding Quigley Park Concession Building
Governor Scott has congratulated the City of Parkland for Quigley Park Concession Building on Parkside Drive being one of only sixty-two (62) food service establishments in the State of Florida for not having any safety or sanitation violations within the past year during inspections by the State of Florida.

Parkland Receives Acknowledgement from FRPA for Barkland
The Florida Recreation and Park Association a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and advocacy of the Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services profession with a membership base of 1,600 and growing. FRPA has become a proven leading association recognized by Florida Trends Magazine as a Top-Ranked Association. In its Winter 2012 Issue of FRPA Journal, the City of Parkland’s Barkland Park was chose in its Facility Showcase. Barkland, located on Ranch Road, is the City’s newest park dedication to our four legged friends. It was opened in January of this year and has been so popular that the Park is always filled. City Offices will be closed for Christmas Holiday
City of Parkland offices will be closed Monday, December 24th and Tuesday, December 25th, in observance of the Christmas Holiday. Here's how city services are affected:
City Hall: Will be closed both days
Solid Waste and Recyclables: There will be no pick up on the 25th. Garbage normally collected on the 25th will be picked up on the next scheduled pick up day. Regular service will resume on the 26th.
Library: Will be closed both days
Parks: Will close early at 6:00 pm on December 24th and 25th

Vote For Your Favorite Parkland Holiday Home
The City of Parkland accepted registration forms from residents that wished to show off their “Decked Out” Holiday Homes. This year, in addition to the City judging panel, the City is asking residents to have a say in which house is their favorite. Please click here to vote for your favorite “Decked Out” Parkland home. Voting will end on Thursday night, December 20th and the winner will be announced on Friday, December 21st. Congratulations to all participants.

Winter Tennis Camp

The United Stated Tennis Federation is proud to present its 2012 winter tennis camp. In the sport of tennis, the fundamentals are the building blocks to your future. Players that have been through the USTF in Parkland looks like a who's who in Florida tennis. Alex Sachs, Taylor Russo, Alex Kurtz, Priyanka Shah, Remi Ramos, David Beasley, Evan Bynoe, Courtney Malinchak, Kala Bynoe and Brittany Golden. We have had players that participated in many of the top junior tournaments in the world. From beginner to Professional we develop you fundamentals to last. Creative Kids Crafts – Registration Begins
Friday, January 4
City Hall – 3:30pm – 4:30pm
The Parks and Recreation is offering Craft Activities for children ages 7-11. This class is free of charge to Parkland residents. January’s Kids Craft will be our “Exploration” Craft. Registration is at the Parkland Amphitheater or can be done online through WebTrac. Registration starts on Monday, December 17, 2012. Chili Cook-Off –Registration
Saturday, January 5, 2013
Pine Trails Park – 6:00pm – 7:00pm
The City of Parkland’s annual Chili Cook-Off is back by popular demand. The cook-off begins at 6:00pm but check-in and set up begins at 5:30pm. “Best Chili” will be judged on the following criteria: flavor, texture/consistency, aroma, appearance/ presentation of dish. Deadline for Entry is on Thursday, January 3, 2013 by 5:00pm. Entry forms can be found on the City of Parkland’s web site. AARP Driver Safety Program
SAT January 12, 2013 from (9:00am-3:00pm)
The AARP Driver Safety Course is a 6 hour course. The course will be offered quarterly for a minimum of 15 participants and a maximum of 25 participants. The participants of the course are generally 50 and older, but anyone is permitted to register for the course. All participants of the course receive a certificate, but only those 55 and older may submit the certificate to their insurance company to receive discount benefits. Discount percentage depends on the insurance company. The cost to attend the class is $12.00 for members and $14.00 for non-members. Checks are written out to AARP. Membership number is required on the check to receive membership rate. Advance Registration is required. This class will be held at the Parkland City Hall, 6600 University Drive, Parkland. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Essay/Poetry Contest
The City of Parkland would like to invite middle-school students within the City of Parkland to participate in an essay/poetry contest. Students will be responding to the question, “What was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream for America? If he were alive today, do you think he would feel that his dream has been realized?” Winners will be asked to read their entry at the January 18th celebration event which will be held at the Parkland Amphitheater. All entries must be submitted to the City of Parkland Parks and Recreation office no later than 4pm on Friday January 11th. Entries can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Parks and Recreation Department at 10561 Trails End Parkland, FL 33076.
