City Offices will be closed for New Year’s Day Holiday
City of Parkland offices will be closed Tuesday January 1st, in observance of New Year’s Day. Here's how city services are affected:
City Hall: Will be closed
Solid Waste and Recyclables: Will not be affected by the holiday. Operating under regular schedule.
Library: Will be closed on Tuesday January 1st.
Parks: Will close early at 6:00pm on January 1st and 2nd

Winter Tennis Camp
The United Stated Tennis Federation is proud to present its 2012 winter tennis camp. In the sport of tennis, the fundamentals are the building blocks to your future. Players that have been through the USTF in Parkland looks like a who's who in Florida tennis. Alex Sachs, Taylor Russo, Alex Kurtz, Priyanka Shah, Remi Ramos, David Beasley, Evan Bynoe, Courtney Malinchak, Kala Bynoe and Brittany Golden. We have had players that participated in many of the top junior tournaments in the world. From beginner to Professional we develop you fundamentals to last. Parkland Walkabouts Walking Program

Walk the parks with us! The Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a five-month guided and self-guided walking program beginning Friday January 4th. This five-month program will aid participants in walking their way to an overall positive fitness level and quality of life. Program participants will meet twice a month at 9am on Friday mornings at one of the beautiful and unique parks located throughout our town. Participants will also be encouraged to walk on their own on other days and will be rewarded for participation. The program is free of charge and is open to residents of Parkland ages 50 and older. Registration is required; however, you may join at any time. (Next meeting time will be Terramar Park on Friday January 25 at 9:00am.)

Creative Kids Crafts – Exploration Craft

The Parks and Recreation is offering Craft Activities for children ages 7-11. This class is free of charge to Parkland residents. January’s Kids Craft will be our “Exploration” Craft. Registration is at the Parkland Amphitheater or can be done online through WebTrac. Registration starts on Monday, November 19, 2012. Chili Cook Off and Shadow Creek Band

The City of Parkland is proud to announce Shadow Creek Band at the Pine Trails Park Amphitheater on January 5, 2013 from 7:00pm-8:30pm Presented by the Law Offices of McFarlane & Dolan . The Chili Cook Off will feature some of the best Wild West chili in Parkland. Come join in the fun and taste test some chili starting at 6:00pm! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance. No tents, pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed within the park. City of Parkland Farmer’s Market

Equestrian Center: 8350 Ranch Road, Parkland
Join the City of Parkland for our next Farmer’s Market on January 6th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Equestrian Center. Activities will include a free bounce house and face painting for the kids, a cash raffle and a free shopping big thanks to our Sponsor Mercantil Commercebank and so much more. Over 100 vendors will be selling everything from fresh produce, plants and delicious gourmet foods. Adult Lawn Bocce

This class is held the first Tuesday of each month from January through May in Pine Trails Park. This class is open to adults 21 years of age and older. This class is free of charge and is open to Parkland Residents only. Game time is 10:00AM-11:30AM. Experience is not required. Advance registration is required. Healthy Lifestyle Class: Not Older – Better: Healthy Aging
Wednesday, January 9
1:00-2:00pm

This program will be held one Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the Parkland City Hall Activity Room. These free classes are held by Tunies Natural Grocery & Vitamin Supercenter. Examine the solutions for boosting your brain’s power. Explore the options from the medical community and learn alternative natural solutions. Advanced Registration Required. AARP Driver Safety Program
Saturday January 12
9:00am-3:00pm
The AARP Driver Safety Course is a 6 hour course. The course will be offered quarterly for a minimum of 15 participants and a maximum of 25 participants. The participants of the course are generally 50 and older, but anyone is permitted to register for the course. All participants of the course receive a certificate, but only those 55 and older may submit the certificate to their insurance company to receive discount benefits. Discount percentage depends on the insurance company. The cost to attend the class is $12.00 for members and $14.00 for non-members. Checks are written out to AARP. Membership number is required on the check to receive membership rate. Advance Registration is required. This class will be held at the Parkland City Hall, 6600 University Drive, Parkland. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Essay/Poetry Contest
The City of Parkland would like to invite middle-school students within the City of Parkland to participate in an essay/poetry contest. Students will be responding to the question, “What was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream for America? If he were alive today, do you think he would feel that his dream has been realized?” Winners will be asked to read their entry at the January 18th celebration event which will be held at the Parkland Amphitheater. All entries must be submitted to the City of Parkland Parks and Recreation office no later than 4pm on Friday January 11th. Entries can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Parks and Recreation Department at 10561 Trails End Parkland, FL 33076. Art Display by Joni Sack
January 2nd – January 28th
Our January art display will feature Joni Sack who is an award winning self-taught artist with a natural eye for color and composition. She is a member of the Boca Raton Branch of the National League of American Pen Women and exhibits widely throughout South Florida. Meet and greet the artist on Saturday January 5th from 11:30-12:30. Light refreshments will be served.
