PARKLAND TO HOLD STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION
The City of Parkland City Commission invites you to attend the City's annual Strategic Planning Session to be held on April 13, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00pm and April 14, 2013 from 8:00am to noon at the Parkland Library located at 6620 University Drive, Parkland, Florida. The City Commission along with its consultant, Lyle Sumek, will create a work plan for the next year. Residents will be entitled to listen to the City Commission as they discuss various issues at the session. Vice Mayor and Deputy Vice Mayor Appointed
At their April 3rd City Commission meeting, the City of Parkland’s Vice Mayor and Deputy Vice Mayor titles have changed hands. The Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Commissioner David Rosenof as the Vice Mayor and Commissioner Christine Hunschofsky as the Deputy Vice Mayor. The titles, which are rotating, will last until November of this year.

City of Parkland Appoints Board Members
The City of Parkland (“City”) City Commission at their April 3rd meeting made appointments to the three (3) City Boards – Planning and Zoning, Parks and Recreation and Education Advisory. The following residents were appointed: Planning and Zoning – Lynne Fenoglio, J. Sebastien Gros, Dominick Peri, Gina Stephens, Murray Zweig, Larry Litow, Mario Mangone, Adam Dalvia and George Silver, Parks and Recreation – Howard Wyner, Stephen Ross, Lynda Rusinowski, Carey Merzlicker, Phil Thornberg, Steven Brown, Kendall Day, William Hicks, and JC Meeroff and Education Advisory – Nicolas Steffens, Robert Marks, Andrea Beckerman, Laurie Steinberg, Kristina Stein, Robert Mayerson, Paula Magram, Richard French and Doug Kruse. Congratulations to all appointed and a warm and heartfelt thankful for those who have served in the past!

Parkland Library Events

Come to the Library for National Library Week
The Parkland Library invites all residents to visit during this annual event which begins April 15. Check out your beautiful Library, meet the friendly and knowledgeable staff, get information on the many Library services or attend a workshop. During the week, cultural, technology, early literacy, and environmental programs are offered.
In the tradition of National Library Week, current patrons will be offered a special discount on late fees. There’s no reason to hold onto those overdue items any longer or to avoid the Library because of charges on your account. Do you need to brush up on your Word, Excel or PowerPoint skills?
The Parkland Library is offering Microsoft Office instruction during the month of April. Word, Excel and PowerPoint classes will be held in the City Hall Training Room on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 PM. Also a new workshop, Advanced Excel, is scheduled for Saturday April 27 at 10:30 AM. Visit the Library website for more information and to register.

Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration – Spots filling quickly!
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting registration for Parkland Kids Camp for residents and for non-residents. The camp location will take place at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30am and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. Field trips are taken aboard air-conditioned motor coach buses two to three days per week to facilities located in the tri county area such as movies, bowling, water parks, arcades, skating, museums, etc. For further details, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at gdougherty@cityofparkland.org or go to the City website at www.cityofparkland.org.

Parkland Teen Camp
Summer Recreation Registration – Spots filling quickly!
Don’t get left out of the summer fun with your friends this summer. The City of Parkland has begun accepting registration for Parkland Teen Camp for residents and for non-residents. Parkland Teen Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 12 to 14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. The camp will take place at Westglades Middle School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00am and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. The program is a Teen Travel Camp. Creative Kids Crafts – Mother’s Day Craft

The Parks and Recreation is offering Craft Activities for children ages 7-11. This class is free of charge to Parkland residents only. May’s Kids Craft will be a Mother’s Day Craft. Workshop for Baby Boomers

The City of Parkland and Encore Connect are presenting a free workshop title “Re-Imagine Your Future” to help figure out your interests, strengths and dreams and put them into action through volunteering. The class will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 9:00am-2:00pm. This class is free of charge for both residents and non-residents born in 1946 through 1964. There will be a $10.00 fee for all others that would like to attend. The class will be held at the Parkland City Hall Activity Room. Advance registration is required. Join the City of Parkland Teen Advisory Group (TAG) sponsored by Marrecau and Rodriguez Orthodontics and become a leader in your community and create programs and experiences you would like to see offered in Parkland for teens. This program is free of charge and is offered to students 13-18 years of age. Community service hours are earned for all time spent at meetings and volunteer opportunities will be available. To celebrate the City of Parkland’s 50th Anniversary, the City will host its first ever Family Carnival from April 19th – 21st at Pine Trails Park. One of the most respected carnival companies will bring in rides for children from ages 3 to 18. In addition to the exciting rides, carnival goers will be able to treat themselves to classic carnival food as well as test their skills in all their favorite midway games. The City of Parkland and the Law Offices of McFarlane & Dolan are proud to announce the Caribbean Chillers and food trucks will be coming to the Parkland Amphitheater located in Pine Trails Park on April 20, 2013 from 7:00pm-8:30pm. The food trucks will be on site and begin serving food at 6:00pm. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your parrot head friends and neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance. The Little River Band and Firework Show

On, Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Little River Band will perform live on stage at the Parkland Amphitheater. During their career they have sold more than 25 million records and have had 13 American Top 40 hits. "Reminiscing", has been recognized by BMI as one of the most frequently played songs in the history of American radio, with more than four million plays. "Lady" has also accumulated more than three million plays. A wide variety of food trucks will be back by popular demand to meet all of your dining needs beginning at 6:00 p.m. Following the performance will be a dazzling fireworks display sure to delight residents of all ages. Tri City Classic Car Show and Car Ride

The Cities of Parkland, Tamarac and Coral Springs are all celebrating their 50th Anniversaries in 2013. In an effort to celebrate with all three municipalities there will be a Tri-City Classic Car Show and Car Ride taking place on Sunday, April 28th. The event will begin in Tamarac as the elected officials from all three cities will participate in a parade, riding in classic cars through Tamarac, Coral Springs and end at the Parkland Equestrian Center.
