New Collaborative Learning Space at the Library
An ideal place for groups to meet for study and project preparation, it’s perfect for students - teens and adults. With the large screen monitor you can use the computer provided or plug in your own laptop and collaborate, share, demonstrate, or just work big. Located in the Library’s Teen Spot Room, the space includes collaboration oriented workspace and seating, related technology, and whiteboard. City of Parkland Announces “Environmentally Possible” Poster Contest Winner
The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department held an Earth Day Poster Contest for 4th and 5th grade students with the theme of “Environmentally Possible”. Students were asked to submit posters which were judged on creativity, artwork and best use of the theme. William Olson, a 4th grade student from Park Trails Elementary School, was the winner and recipient of a pizza party for his class. Congratulations to William and to all of the students who participated in the contest!

Late Fee Discounts - National Library Week
There’s no reason to hold onto those overdue items any longer or to avoid the Library because of charges on your account. In the tradition of National Library Week, current patrons are eligible for an extra special discount on late fees.
• Available from April 15 to April 30.
• Come in to the Library and ask us to review your account.
• Or visit the Library website to submit a late fee discount request. We will review your account and reply to you via email.

The Parkland Library invites all residents to visit during National Library Week, which begins April 15. Check out your beautiful Library, meet the friendly and knowledgeable staff, get information on the many Library services or attend a workshop. During the week, cultural, technology, early literacy, and environmental programs are offered.

Beginning Birding with Paddy Cunnigham-Pascatore of Broward Audubon Society

Arbor Day Tree Planting at the Library

Come to the Parkland Library and help plant a tree for Arbor Day! The City of Parkland is pleased to announce an event to recognize and observe Arbor Day and the City’s impressive 20 consecutive years as a Tree City USA member. After the tree planting, children are invited to celebrate the planting with a special tree story, song and craft. Refreshments will be served. Arbor Day is observed throughout the nation and has been a special day set aside for planting trees since 1872. Go Birding in Parkland

Discover the birds of Parkland. William Mohler, Parkland’s Environmental Superintendent, will lead a bird watching event at Parkland’s Parkside Trailhead. Bring your binoculars, ID books and water. The bird watching will start at the Southeast corner of the park and head north along the trail that runs along the east side of the property. Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration – Spots filling quickly!
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting registration for Parkland Kids Camp for residents and for non-residents. The camp location will take place at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30am and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. Field trips are taken aboard air-conditioned motor coach buses two to three days per week to facilities located in the tri county area such as movies, bowling, water parks, arcades, skating, museums, etc. For further details, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at gdougherty@cityofparkland.org or go to the City website at www.cityofparkland.org.

Don’t get left out of the summer fun with your friends this summer. The City of Parkland has begun accepting registration for Parkland Teen Camp for residents and for non-residents. Parkland Teen Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 12 to 14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. The camp will take place at Westglades Middle School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00am and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. The program is a Teen Travel Camp. Teen Advisory Group Meeting

In addition to the exciting rides, carnival goers will be able to treat themselves to classic carnival food as well as test their skills in all their favorite midway games. The City of Parkland and the Law Offices of McFarlane & Dolan are proud to announce the Caribbean Chillers and food trucks will be coming to the Parkland Amphitheater located in Pine Trails Park on April 20, 2013 from 7:00pm-8:30pm. The food trucks will be on site and begin serving food at 6:00pm. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your parrot head friends and neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance. The Little River Band and Firework Show

On, Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Little River Band will perform live on stage at the Parkland Amphitheater. "Lady" has also accumulated more than three million plays. Tri City Classic Car Show and Car Ride

The Cities of Parkland, Tamarac and Coral Springs are all celebrating their 50th Anniversaries in 2013. In an effort to celebrate with all three municipalities there will be a Tri-City Classic Car Show and Car Ride taking place on Sunday, April 28th. The event will begin in Tamarac as the elected officials from all three cities will participate in a parade, riding in classic cars through Tamarac, Coral Springs and end at the Parkland Equestrian Center.
