Exam Proctoring
Does your online class require that your exams be proctored? The Parkland Library is available to proctor examinations for students. Exam materials can be sent to the Library prior to the scheduled exam date. There is a service fee for Parkland residents of $10 per exam and the non-resident fee is $20 per exam. Contact the Library at library@cityofparkland.org in advance to schedule.

Arbor Day Tree Planting at the Library

Come to the Parkland Library and help plant a tree for Arbor Day! The City of Parkland is pleased to announce an event to recognize and observe Arbor Day and the City’s impressive 20 consecutive years as a Tree City USA member. After the tree planting, children are invited to celebrate the planting with a special tree story, song and craft. Refreshments will be served. Arbor Day is observed throughout the nation and has been a special day set aside for planting trees since 1872. Go Birding in Parkland
Saturday, April 27th 9:00am
Discover the birds of Parkland. William Mohler, Parkland’s Environmental Superintendent will lead a bird watching event at Parkland’s Parkside Trailhead. Bring your binoculars, ID books and water. The bird watching will start at the Southeast corner of the park and head north along the trail that runs along the east side of the property. Tales to Tails

Come to the Parkland Library and read to Leyna or Daisy, therapy dogs from Progressive Paws. This program is developed to encourage independent reading and increase reading fluency. Each child can read for about 5 minutes. This program is for children 5 to12 years old. Register here or call (954)757-4207.

Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration –Accepting Walk in Registration
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in summer recreation applications. The camp location will take place at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30am and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. Field trips are taken aboard air-conditioned motor coach buses two to three days per week to facilities located in the tri county area such as movies, bowling, water parks, arcades, skating, museums, etc. For further details, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at gdougherty@cityofparkland.org or go to the City website at www.cityofparkland.org.

Don’t get left out of the summer fun with your friends this summer. The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in registration for Parkland Teen Camp Parkland Teen Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 12 to 14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. The camp will take place at Westglades Middle School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00am and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. The program is a Teen Travel Camp. Senior Program Health Screenings

The Little River Band and Firework Show

On, Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Little River Band will perform live on stage at the Parkland Amphitheater. During their career they have sold more than 25 million records and have had 13 American Top 40 hits. "Reminiscing", has been recognized by BMI as one of the most frequently played songs in the history of American radio, with more than four million plays. "Lady" has also accumulated more than three million plays. A wide variety of food trucks will be back by popular demand to meet all of your dining needs beginning at 6:00 p.m. Following the performance will be a dazzling fireworks display sure to delight residents of all ages. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance. No tents, pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed within the park. Tri City Classic Car Show and Car Ride

The Cities of Parkland, Tamarac and Coral Springs are all celebrating their 50th Anniversaries in 2013. In an effort to celebrate with all three municipalities there will be a Tri-City Classic Car Show and Car Ride taking place on Sunday, April 28th. The event will begin in Tamarac as the elected officials from all three cities will participate in a parade, riding in classic cars through Tamarac, Coral Springs and end at the Parkland Equestrian Center. Once at the Equestrian Center there will be a classic car show presented by the Parkland Historical Society from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For more information or to register your car, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 954-757-4105.

Pet Photo Contest
Application due Thursday, May 3, 2013
Residents, do you think you have the cutest pet in Parkland? Then enter their photo in the City's contest! Photos and application are due by Thursday, May 3, 2013 at 5pm. Judging will be done by City Employees and by the public. Public voting will be done one the City's website. Anyone can vote. Voting will be Monday, May 6th until Thursday, May 9th.
