Parkland Awarded Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The City of Parkland has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current budget from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the City. This is the 6th year the award has been presented to the City. The award reflects the commitment of the Parkland governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Not only did the City of Parkland receive the Distinguished Budget Award this year but the City also received the Special Capital Recognition award. This distinction is awarded to governments who receive outstanding ratings in categories relating to capital expenditures and the impact of the capital investments on the City’s operating budget.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award. This was presented to the City’s Finance Department.
