City of Parkland To Host The 3rd Annual Sunshine State Lacrosse Games
The Florida Sports Foundation is proud to present the 3rd Annual Sunshine State Lacrosse Games May 17th – 21st. The City of Parkland was awarded the honor of hosting this tournament following the success of this event for the last few years. The tournament will showcase some of the state’s top lacrosse players in Boys and Girls High School and Middle School divisions. Games will be played at Pine Trails Park and Terramar Park beginning Friday evening, May 17th and culminating with an awards ceremony at the Parkland Amphitheater on Sunday, May 21st. Parkland Obtains Playful City Designation for the 6th Year in a Row!
To ensure children in their communities are active and healthy, two hundred seventeen (217) cities and towns across the country earned recognition as “2013 Playful City USA Communities". Hailing from 43 states, the 217 Playful City USA honorees range in size from seven-time honorees such as San Francisco and Spartanburg, S.C., to first-time recipient Ellsworth, Kan. (population: 3,100). These Playful City USA communities are making a commitment to play and physical activity by developing unique local action plans to increase the quantity and quality of play in their community. In the seventh year of the annual program, 16 Playful City USA communities received recognition for the seventh consecutive year, while 23 earned honors for the sixth time, 25 for the fifth time, 29 for the fourth time, 41 for the third time, 46 for the second time. KaBOOM! recognized 37 communities with their first Playful City USA designation. Parkland has received this honor six years in a row! KaBOOM! selected Parkland for its outstanding dedication to play. In September, Parkland will host P.L.A.Y (Parkland Loves Active Youth). This play day will celebrate play and provide education on active and healthy lifestyles, while also engaging citizens to assist with park maintenance and cleanup.

The Parkland Library's eBook website had a facelift with the implementation of Overdrive's Next Generation. New features include One-Step Checkout, OverDrive Read, and powerful discovery tools. The enhanced website is now available through the eBook Info Center at www.cityofparkland.org/library.

Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration – Accepting Walk in Registration
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 - 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in summer recreation applications. The camp location
will be at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30AM-4:00PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30AM and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30PM. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. Field trips are taken aboard air-conditioned motor coach buses two to three days per week to facilities located in the tri-county area such as movies, bowling, water parks, arcades, skating, museums, etc. For further details, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at gdougherty@cityofparkland.org or go to the City website at www.cityofparkland.org.

Parkland Teen Camp
Summer Recreation Registration – Accepting Walk in Registration
Don’t get left out of the fun with your friends this summer! The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in registration for Parkland Teen Camp. Parkland Teen Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 12-14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. The camp will take place at Westglades Middle School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 9:00AM-3:30PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00AM and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00PM. The program is a Teen Travel Camp. Parkland Summer Camp Balance Payments Due
Balance payments are due for those currently registered for the Parkland Teen Camp and the Parkland Kids Camp. Payments may be made online, by mail or in person at the Parkland Amphitheater.
