City of Parkland To Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony For New Fire Station

The City of Parkland will celebrate the start of construction at the site of their newest Fire Station.   City of Parkland Officials and invited guests will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 109 on January 8, 2014 at 5:00 PM.

City of Parkland & Parkland YMCA To Hold Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast

Please join the City of Parkland and the Parkland YMCA Family Center for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Parkland Family YMCA, 10559 Trails End, on January 17, 2014 from 8:00 am until 10:00am.  The event will feature a live simulcast of the 10th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspirational Breakfast featuring former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Congressman Andrew Young.  All members of the community are invited to attend, and a light breakfast will be served. City of Parkland Annual Scholarship Applications Now Available

The City of Parkland annually awards scholarships to Parkland residents for post-secondary education.  The scholarship is in recognition of outstanding community or civic service.  This scholarship is made possible through The City of Parkland, the Parkland Education Advisory Board and the Parkland Teen Advisory Group and is open to all Parkland students in public school, private school or homeschool students.  The completed application and all supporting materials must be received by 4:00pm on January 31, 2014. Online registration will enable you to register your child for storytime on a first come, first serve basis through our website. Teen Film Discussion: Super Man, Man of Steel

Come watch the hit movie Super Man movie, Man of Steel staring Henry Cavil.  Man of Steel tells the story of a young boy who learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind. Popcorn and refreshments will be served. Film Viewing and Discussion:  Big Night

The movie stars Tony Shalhoub, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini.  A failing Italian restaurant run by two brothers gambles on one special night to try to save the business. Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. Primo is the irascible and gifted chef determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect. Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat. The owner of the nearby Pascal's restaurant, enormously successful (despite its mediocre fare), offers a solution - he will call his friend, a big-time jazz musician, to play a special benefit at their restaurant. Adult Outdoor Bocce Ball

Pine Trails Park - 10555 Trails End
Presented by Northwest Medical Center

The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department and Northwest Medical Center present Adult Outdoor Bocce Ball. This activity is held the first Tuesday of each month from 10:00am to 11:30am in Pine Trails Park, 10555 Trails End, at field #5. Bocce is a terrific way to get outdoors, meet up with friends old and new, get a little exercise and socialize all together. Beginners and advanced players are welcome. Participants should wear flat shoes and bring water and sunscreen. There is no fee to play, all equipment is included and the activity is open to all those aged 21 and over. Advance registration is required and there is a limit of 16 participants. Healthy Lifestyle Class

Healthy Lifestyles is a series of classes held quarterly on the first Wednesday of the month from 1:00pm-2:00pm in the activity room at Parkland City Hall. These educational classes are for adults 21 years of age and older and promote healthy living from a holistic approach. This quarter’s class, sponsored by Northwest Medical Center , features Clinical Dietitian Rita Hardy who will enlighten us on “Kicking Off Your New Year Eating Healthy".  This fun packed activity is designed to clarify and build understanding of the food portion sizes needed in order for you to be the healthiest you can be. The City of Parkland and Northwest Medical Center are proud to announce Kim Betts and Gamble Creek a Country Tribute Band coming to the Parkland Amphitheater located in Pine Trails Park on January 11, 2014 from 7:00pm-8:30pm. The food trucks will be on site and begin serving food at 6:00pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your fellow parrot head friends and neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance.  No tents, pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed within the park. Parkland Walkabouts Walking Program

Shed all that holiday weight and start off the New Year right by walking! The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department has a seven-month walking program sponsored by Northwest Medical Center.  This program aids participants in walking their way to an overall better fitness level and quality of life. The group meets on the first and third Friday each month at 9:00am, alternating monthly between Pine Trails and Terramar Parks. The program is free of charge and open to all aged 21 and over (no strollers please). Advanced registration is required; however you may join at any time. Teen Advisory Group

Join the City of Parkland’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and become a leader in your community. Create the programs and experiences you would like to see offered in Parkland for teens. TAG meetings and activities are for students aged 14-18 years old and a great opportunity to help plan social events and obtain leadership skills while receiving volunteer service hours. This particular class will be a CPR Certification Class.  The class will take place from 6:30pm-9:30pm. Throughout the school year training classes will be held on CPR, first aid, fire extinguisher usage and more. Ever worry what you would do if you had a fire in the house? This is a great opportunity to learn how to use a fire extinguisher as well as go over terrific tips in order to be better prepared and avoid future accidents or emergencies. We will learn straight from experts at Coral Springs Fire Department and participants will be able to handle a fire extinguisher and put out a real fire to be sure to get the feel of it. This program is free of charge for Parkland residents aged 62 and over who are currently registered with Parks & Recreation. The City of Parkland, Marrecau & Rodriguez Orthodontics, North West Medical Center and the Goddard School is excited to bring back Snowfest at Terramar Park on January 26, 2014 from 11:00am-2:00pm. There will be 10 tons of snow, an outdoor skating rink, a 30 foot snow slide, food trucks and more! This event is open to Parkland residents only and space is limited.  Pre-registration begins on Monday, December 30, 2013 and ends on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2:00pm. Registration can be done online through Web Trac on the City of Parkland website or in person at the Parkland Amphitheater. Preregistration tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the event.
