CITY NEWS

Hurricane Season Has Begun

June 1st is the beginning of the annual hurricane season, and it is time for everyone to begin preparations for what could be a busy hurricane season. Please remember that every family in Parkland should be prepared to be self-sufficient for the first 3-5 days after a storm. We urge you to sit down and prepare an emergency kit, develop an emergency plan, and stay informed during a hurricane emergency. To assist you, please take advantage of the many resources regarding hurricane preparations starting with the emergency management section of the City of Parkland website at www.cityofparkland.org. There you will find a detailed outline of tips and suggestions on how best to prepare for the 2014 Hurricane Season. The City’s top priority is to ensure the safety of everyone during potentially dangerous weather, and to encourage residents to make preparations for their homes and families. In the event of a storm, the City will regularly post information, messages and updates on the City’s website, Facebook page, Comcast TV Channel 78, 1670 AM, and the information bulletin boards located in Pine Trails Park, City Hall, Terramar Park and Barkland. We will also use our Code Red notification system to deliver information to residents via telephone and text messages. Please take this opportunity to visit the Code Red page in the emergency management section on the City of Parkland website to update your information and include your mobile phone numbers to receive text alerts. Thank you in advance for your preparation, and stay safe this hurricane season.

Summer Safety – Schools Out

As we head into the summer months, it is a good time to discuss traffic safety. Schools will be out for summer break beginning June 5th. This means neighborhood play grounds, parks, yards and even our streets will soon be seeing activity from children. It is time to pay particular attention to our driving and not be distracted by cell phones, texting and other influences that take our attention from the road ahead.

It is time to watch our speed in residential areas as well as on the main City roads of Parkland. As you drive remember children may be sharing the roadways with you, on bikes. Children may not follow the rules of the road as adults know them. When you are driving and encounter a child on a bike expect the unexpected. Slow down when in the same area as a child on a bike and give them room, do not lose sight of the child until you are well clear. Always remember to check behind your vehicle before backing out of your driveway for children on the sidewalk or playing in the driveway. Remember, children may “pop out” at any time or place chasing a ball or each other.

Their connection is electric, but Cody harbors a dark secret that has kept him from ever having a meaningful relationship. Dana looks to her best friend, drive time jock Jonny Rock, but he has his own problems…mainly his lust for interns that threatens his marriage and his career. Dana must decide what she really wants as she tries to balance her confident on-air persona with her desire for true love. Problem is, she’s not alone. Dana is being watched, stalked by a listener who plans to make her his…by whatever means necessary. Lisa Wainland has spent over twenty years in the world of radio.
