Exam Proctoring
Does your online class require that your exams be proctored? The Parkland Library is available to proctor examinations for students. Exam materials can be sent to the Library prior to the scheduled exam date. There is a service fee for Parkland residents of $10 per exam and the non-resident fee is $20 per exam. Arbor Day Tree Planting at the Library

Come to the Parkland Library and help plant a tree for Arbor Day! The City of Parkland is pleased to announce an event to recognize and observe Arbor Day and the City’s impressive 20 consecutive years as a Tree City USA member. After the tree planting, children are invited to celebrate the planting with a special tree story, song and craft. Refreshments will be served. Arbor Day is observed throughout the nation and has been a special day set aside for planting trees since 1872. Go Birding in Parkland

Discover the birds of Parkland. William Mohler, Parkland’s Environmental Superintendent will lead a bird watching event at Parkland’s Parkside Trailhead. Bring your binoculars, ID books and water. The bird watching will start at the Southeast corner of the park and head north along the trail that runs along the east side of the property. Tales to Tails

Come to the Parkland Library and read to Leyna or Daisy, therapy dogs from Progressive Paws. This program is developed to encourage independent reading and increase reading fluency. Parkland Kids Camp
Summer Recreation Registration –Accepting Walk in Registration
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in summer recreation applications. The camp location will take place at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30am and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. The City of Parkland has begun accepting walk in registration for Parkland Teen Camp Parkland Teen Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 12 to 14 (grades 7-9). Children must have completed the sixth grade to be eligible for the program. The camp will take place at Westglades Middle School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:30-9:00am and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. The program is a Teen Travel Camp. The Little River Band and Firework Show

On, Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. the Little River Band will perform live on stage at the Parkland Amphitheater. "Lady" has also accumulated more than three million plays. The Cities of Parkland, Tamarac and Coral Springs are all celebrating their 50th Anniversaries in 2013. In an effort to celebrate with all three municipalities there will be a Tri-City Classic Car Show and Car Ride taking place on Sunday, April 28th. The event will begin in Tamarac as the elected officials from all three cities will participate in a parade, riding in classic cars through Tamarac, Coral Springs and end at the Parkland Equestrian Center. Pet Photo Contest

Residents, do you think you have the cutest pet in Parkland? Then enter their photo in the City's contest! Photos and application are due by Thursday, May 3, 2013 at 5pm. Judging will be done by City Employees and by the public. Public voting will be done one the City's website. Anyone can vote. Voting will be Monday, May 6th until Thursday, May 9th. New Collaborative Learning Space at the Library
An ideal place for groups to meet for study and project preparation, it’s perfect for students - teens and adults. With the large screen monitor you can use the computer provided or plug in your own laptop and collaborate, share, demonstrate, or just work big. Located in the Library’s Teen Spot Room, the space includes collaboration oriented workspace and seating, related technology, and whiteboard. City of Parkland Announces “Environmentally Possible” Poster Contest Winner
The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department held an Earth Day Poster Contest for 4th and 5th grade students with the theme of “Environmentally Possible”. Students were asked to submit posters which were judged on creativity, artwork and best use of the theme. William Olson, a 4th grade student from Park Trails Elementary School, was the winner and recipient of a pizza party for his class. Congratulations to William and to all of the students who participated in the contest!

PARKLAND TO HOLD STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION
The City of Parkland City Commission invites you to attend the City's annual Strategic Planning Session to be held on April 13, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00pm and April 14, 2013 from 8:00am to noon at the Parkland Library located at 6620 University Drive, Parkland, Florida. The City Commission along with its consultant, Lyle Sumek, will create a work plan for the next year. Residents will be entitled to listen to the City Commission as they discuss various issues at the session. More detailed information can be obtained from the City Manager’s Office by calling 954-753-5040 or by e-mailing ljeudy@cityofparkland.org.

Vice Mayor and Deputy Vice Mayor Appointed
At their April 3rd City Commission meeting, the City of Parkland’s Vice Mayor and Deputy Vice Mayor titles have changed hands. The Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Commissioner David Rosenof as the Vice Mayor and Commissioner Christine Hunschofsky as the Deputy Vice Mayor. The titles, which are rotating, will last until November of this year.

The City of Parkland (“City”) City Commission at their April 3rd meeting made appointments to the three (3) City Boards – Planning and Zoning, Parks and Recreation and Education Advisory. The following residents were appointed: Planning and Zoning – Lynne Fenoglio, J. Sebastien Gros, Dominick Peri, Gina Stephens, Murray Zweig, Larry Litow, Mario Mangone, Adam Dalvia and George Silver, Parks and Recreation – Howard Wyner, Stephen Ross, Lynda Rusinowski, Carey Merzlicker, Phil Thornberg, Steven Brown, Kendall Day, William Hicks, and JC Meeroff and Education Advisory – Nicolas Steffens, Robert Marks, Andrea Beckerman, Laurie Steinberg, Kristina Stein, Robert Mayerson, Paula Magram, Richard French and Doug Kruse. The Cities of Parkland, Tamarac and Coral Springs are all celebrating their 50th Anniversaries in 2013. In an effort to celebrate with all three municipalities there will be a Tri-City Classic Car Show and Car Ride taking place on Sunday, April 28th. The event will begin in Tamarac as the elected officials from all three cities will participate in a parade, riding in classic cars through Tamarac, Coral Springs and end at the Parkland Equestrian Center. Summer Recreation Registration – Spots filling quickly!
Parkland Kids Camp is a summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 11 (kindergarten through grade 6). Children must be five years of age by June 17, 2013 to enroll in the program. The City of Parkland has begun accepting registration for Parkland Kids Camp for residents and for non-residents. The camp location will take place at Heron Heights Elementary School for all sessions and the hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with extended hours available in the morning from 8:00-8:30am and in the afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. The program consists of sports, arts & crafts, games, special on-site activities, and field trips. AARP Driver Safety Program

The AARP Driver Safety Course is a 6 hour course. This course will be offered quarterly for a minimum of 15 participants and a maximum of 25 participants. The course will be offered on Saturday, March 23 from 9am to 3:00pm at Parkland City Hall. The participants of the course are generally 50 and older, but anyone is permitted to register for the course. All participants of the course receive a certificate, but only those 55 and older may submit the certificate to their insurance company to receive discount benefits. The City of Parkland, North Broward Preparatory School and Marrecau & Rodriguez Orthodontics welcomes all Parkland residents to this fantastic FREE event which will feature 10,000 eggs, bounce houses, food, and entertainment. Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Terramar Park from 9:00am – 12:00pm.This event is open to parkland residents only. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Registration can be done in person at the Parkland Amphitheater located in Pine Trails Park or online at www.cityofparkland.org through Webtrac. Each participant will receive a free egg bag to collect their eggs and no other egg baskets will be permitted. Workshop for Baby Boomers

The City of Parkland and Encore Connect are presenting a free workshop title “Re-Imagine Your Future” to help figure out your interests, strengths and dreams and put them into action through volunteering. The class will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 9:00am-2:00pm. This class is free of charge for both residents and non-residents born in 1946 through 1964. There will be a $10.00 fee for all others that would like to attend. The class will be held at the Parkland City Hall Activity Room. Advance registration is required. This class is limited to 40 participants.
